When our founder, Henry Norton, created his steak house, he did so to fulfill a dream. His friends thought he was ill advised to launch a steak house when seafood was reigning in the restaurant realm. An experienced entrepreneur, Henry had already owned and operated numerous bars and restaurants, he knew that he could turn a steak house into gold; the Chicago Chop House was created.
One of Bon Appetit Magazine’s Favorite Places, our restaurant is a home-away-from-home for many of our guests. Located in a cozy, century-old Victorian brownstone in the heart of downtown, our restaurant warmly welcomes both business and pleasure diners.
If you are looking for a taste of Chicago, you will find it here: an awe-inspiring 64oz Porterhouse, 16 and 24oz New York Strips and a 24oz bone-in Prime Rib. All the steaks are hand-cut on the premises.
Chicago Magazine, in their 2000 steak house issue, gave our steakhouse a ‘Gold’ rating and named our New York boneless strip steak the best in Chicago. Our international wine list features over 500 selections from across the globe and has received the Wine Spectator ‘Award of Excellence’ since 1994. In February 2000, Chicago Magazine granted us the designation ‘Best Steakhouse Wine List.’
Playboy Magazine featured us in ‘High Steaks’ Twelve Best Steakhouses in America in the September 2001 issue. Forbes fyi chose us as the only steak house in their summer ‘2001 Special Issue of America’s Best.’
